Facial Oils are making a huge comeback! For years, people have believed oils cause acne but the truth is, oils are good for all skin types!
Oils have come a long way! Dating back to Ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece, they were used back then to keep skin soft and supple. Facial Oils complement the skin’s natural oil production while providing hydration and nutrients.
The benefits of Facial Oils go on and on! They create a protective barrier that locks moisture in! In turn it visibly plumps the skin, targets fine lines and wrinkles and relieves dryness.
Facials Oils are made to target dehydration and dryness. They can also address skin concerns like acne and dull skin. Eminence’s Facial Recovery Oil does just that! We call it gold in a bottle! The combination of ylang ylang, sage leaf and olive oil calm the skin while brightening and moisturizing!
You can incorporate a facial oil in any skin care routine by using a few drops before or after your moisturizer application.
You can purchase Eminence Facial Recovery Oil on our website or in store at Calm Spa and Salon in Pleasant Grove.
Spa facials are a great way to take care of your skin and give it the pampering it deserves! Why are spa facials great for your skin? See this list below to find out!
Customized treatments: At a spa, (Calm Spa in particular) facials are tailored to your specific skin type and concerns. This means that your esthetician will choose the right products and techniques to address your individual needs, whether it’s treating acne, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, or improving overall skin tone and texture.
Deep cleaning: One of the key benefits of a spa facial is the deep cleaning it provides. The esthetician uses specialized tools and techniques to remove impurities and dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, leaving it clean, refreshed, and glowing.
Relaxation: Getting a facial at a spa is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The soothing atmosphere, calming music, and skilled hands of an esthetician all contribute to a feeling of relaxation and well-being. This relaxation can help to reduce stress, which can in turn benefit the health of your skin.
Product knowledge: All Estheticians at Calm spa and salon are trained in the latest skin care products and ingredients, and can recommend the right products for your skin type and concerns. They can also teach you how to properly use these products at home to maintain the benefits of your facial.
Overall skin health: Regular facials can improve the overall health of your skin by removing impurities and dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover, and providing deep hydration. This can result in a more radiant, youthful, and healthy-looking complexion.
In conclusion, spa facials are a great way to take care of your skin, give it the attention and pampering it deserves and are a worthwhile investment in your skin’s health and appearance.
It’s important to prepare for your eyelash extension appointment to ensure that the process goes smoothly and that you end up with the beautiful, full lashes that you want. Here are a few things that you should do before your appointment:
Avoid using any oil-based products around your eyes, including makeup remover and moisturizer. Oil can break down the adhesive used to apply the lashes, causing them to fall out prematurely.
If you have sensitive eyes or allergies, let your lash technician know beforehand. They may recommend using a different adhesive or applying a patch test to ensure that you don’t have a reaction.
Arrive at your appointment with clean, dry lashes. If you wash your face before your appointment, make sure to pat your lashes dry before leaving the house.
Overall, the key to a successful eyelash extension appointment is preparation. By taking the time to follow these steps, you can ensure that your lashes turn out exactly how you want them.
If you’re planning to get a Brazilian wax, there are a few things you should do beforehand to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.
First and foremost, it’s important to make sure your hair is the right length. Brazilian waxes work best when the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long (length of a grain of rice), but not longer than a half inch. This allows the wax to grip the hair properly and remove it effectively. If your hair is too long it can lead to discomfort. If your hair is too short, the wax may not be able to grab onto the hair properly, which means not a precise wax.
It’s also a good idea to exfoliate your skin before your waxing appointment. This will help to remove any dead skin cells and other debris that could potentially block the hair follicles and make it harder for the wax to remove the hair. You can exfoliate with a gentle scrub or exfoliating gloves. Just be sure to do it a day before your appointment to avoid irritating your skin.
Finally, make sure to avoid any activities that could irritate your skin before your waxing appointment. This includes things like using harsh soaps or skincare products, shaving, and applying lotions or creams to the area that will be waxed. All of these things can irritate your skin and make it more sensitive, which can increase your discomfort during the waxing process.
By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your Brazilian wax goes smoothly and that you’re happy with the results. So take the time to prepare properly, and you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of smooth, hair-free skin without any unnecessary discomfort.

Today is all about curly hair love! Whether you have tight bouncy curls or loose waves, we’re going to talk about how to take care of those cute locks in 3 steps!
Cleansing: curly hair needs something that is gentle. Avoid anything that says deep cleansing or clarifying and try a product with a low PH. You’ll also want to use hydrating products, especially a hydrating conditioner. FUN TIP: Keep a wide tooth comb or wet brush in the shower to comb through after your rinse! It’s way easier on your fragile wet hair. Invest in a microfiber towel. Trust us, it will help keep the frizz down and is way more gentle on your hair. Gently blot the hair so it’s not dripping wet.
Treat: Once your hair is gently towel dried, then you can use your products. Our favorite way to start is with is a thermique from Kerastase! We suggest Keratase’s Crème De Jour Fondamentale Hair Cream. It’s a leave-in conditioner/heat protectant that will help moisturize and tame frizz. We also like to add an oil to the ends before we style. We suggest Kerastase’s Huile Sublime Repair Hair Oil. This oil nourishes the hair and scalp for coily and very curly hair.
Style: Next, we add styling products. Our go-to is Gelée Curl Contour Gel-Cream Kerastase. This product is a defining gel-cream that will define coily, curly and very curly hair.
It can take a long time to figure out curls but if you need a little help shoot us a message or come by and we would love to help get you started!

Here at Calm Spa and Salon we love offering NEW SERVICES whenever possible.
Our most recent new service being offered is, TEETH WHITENING
Below we answer some of the questions you may have about this service.
Is Laser Teeth Whitening safe?
Yes, it is SAFE and FDA approved! The LED light and the gel ingredients are safe for cosmetic teeth whitening. The gel is all plant based – so super natural! This process has been used for many years even in the dental industry. There is NO BLEACH in the gel!
How long does it take?
It takes up to two hours. We do 3 rounds for 20 minutes each. Depending on how your natural tooth reacts we can do a 4th round which is totally optional.
How many shades whiter will your teeth get?
It varies from person to person. The average whitening is 5-14 shades whiter. You will leave with your teeth the whitest they can naturally go. Everyone has a natural stopping point and everyone responds differently. 4 shades is average for a clients first session. Lifestyle and genetics are a big factor when its comes to teeth whitening.
How long will your teeth stay white?
It really depends on your lifestyle and the foods and drinks you consume daily! Maintaining is KEY! We love using Charcoal Powder to brush our teeth with 2x a week. You can now purchase the charcoal powder at Calm.
What if you have sensitive teeth?
Most clients experience little to no sensitivity during or after the sessions because our product is so natural. But it is important to stay hydrated that will help with feeling sensitive before and after your appointment.
Does it work on dental work?
Yes! It will whiten the tooth back to its original color and will not whiten beyond that.
What food should you avoid for the first 24-36 hours?
Coffee, tea, soda, kool-aid, red wine, tomato sauce, red meat, dark colored fruits and veggies. If it stains your white shirt, it will stain your teeth!
If scheduling teeth whitening at Calm Spa and Salon, we ask prior to your appointment to drink lots of water. It helps with sensitivity. You can not eat for 2 hours after, so keep that in mind. Don’t worry about brushing your teeth – it’s better not to.
Also, We recommend bringing headphones or a book since you’ll be sitting for a little bit! The first initial service cost is $150 and $99 for touch ups.
You can book this service online at calmspaandsalon.com or by calling 801-404-1254.
So you want to get a chemical peel and you don’t know where to start? This post will tell you everything you need to know to determine if a chemical peel is right for you.
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
A chemical peel is a removal of skin cells from the skin’s surface. With different solutions, we can get mild, almost invisible peeling, all the way to deep shedding of skin cells. We also use different blends of acids to target concerns in the skin such as acne, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. When the chemical solution is applied to the skin, it causes the top layers of skin to die and shed off the skin quicker. This shedding promotes new healthy skin growth and exposes fresh new healthy skin beneath layers of damaged skin cells.
WHO IS A CHEMICAL PEEL FOR?
Since chemical peels come in different intensity levels and formulations, they can be great for anyone! Someone wanting to prevent future signs of aging, could receive a mild peel that tightens and brightens the skin. Someone with very oily skin and persistent acne would benefit from a deeper peel that targets cleansing out the pores. There truly is something for everyone within the world of chemical peels!
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
Here at Calm Spa and Salon, we offer a wide variety of chemical peels. On our menu, however, we have simplified our options to make booking your appointment easy. You can book either a level 1, level 2, or level 3 chemical peel. These levels refer to how many layers of solution we apply to the skin. The more layers, the more intense the treatment will be. But don’t worry, no matter what you book, we can make adjustments at the time of your appointment depending on how your skin is reacting to the treatment. Then, the type of chemical peel we use will be determined when you arrive at your appointment and we consult about your skin’s needs.
Before your appointment, you should
– come with cleansed skin if possible
– make sure you don’t have any events or outdoor activities scheduled in the week after your treatment
– discontinue use of any active skincare products at home 2 days before your appointment (active products would consist of retinol/retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, etc.) if you are unsure if your products include active ingredients, please call or text us at Calm Spa and Salon
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT
When you arrive for your appointment at Calm Spa and Salon, you and your esthetician will consult about what you are looking to change about your skin. Your esthetician will determine what treatment will be best. We will start with two thorough cleanses to prep the skin for the peel. Then the chemical solution is applied on. At this point, it’s normal to feel some activity in the skin. You might have warm, tingly, itchy or burning sensations. This is all normal and your esthetician will be monitoring your skins’s reaction closely to avoid potential damage.
Once the chemical peel has had time to neutralize on the skin, your esthetician will apply finishing products to help aid in your skin healing, finish with an SPF on your skin, and they will give you aftercare instructions and that’s pretty much it!
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AFTER YOUR CHEMICAL PEEL?
After your treatment, your skin will feel rather tight and dry. You may feel a little warmth, but most of the activity should be calmed down by the time you leave the spa. Visible peeling does not always occur after a chemical peel. You skin may not peel visibly at all, you make experience some mild flaking, or your skin might peel in larger sheets of skin all over your face.
If you do experience peeling, it typically lasts for about 3-5 day, but it can last anywhere from 7-10 with deeper treatments.
What to do after your chemical peel:
– avoid your active products for 3-4 days after your peel, or until peeling is completely finished
– avoid heat in the skin (like hot showers, sweating, saunas, hot stoves) for the first 24 hrs especially to avoid reactivating the peel
– DO NOT pick at or scrub your skin as it is peeling. You must let the peeling happen naturally so as to avoid tearing and scarring your skin
– use sun protection everyday
– use proper home care products to give you the best results and support the progress made from your chemical peel
– continue to consult with your esthetician at Calm Spa and Salon to receive the appropriate treatments and skincare products for your healthiest skin
We at Calm Spa and Salon are devoted to helping you achieve your best skin. Chemical peels are a great step to reaching so many skin goals. No matter your skin concerns, you can benefit from a chemical peel. Book an appointment with us today and we will help you on your way to clear and youthful skin.
Cailee Anderson, a master hairstylist at Calm Spa and Salon in Pleasant Grove, answers this question in detail below.
The beautiful thing about hair is there are so many styles and different ways to wear your hair. In this post, I’ll be going more in depth about how often you need a haircut and when you know that you need one. There are so many factors that go into maintaining a hair cut. First, if you color treat your hair, the hair is taking on more chemical and thermal damage than natural hair so I always recommend 6-8 weeks in between cuts. If your hair is natural and you use less to medium thermal heat on it, I recommend 3-4 months.
Something to consider is if you are trying to maintain a certain hairstyle, know it will be more of an upkeep. Every hair cut differs and the time in between can range.
There are multiple products that help strengthen and prevent breakage so that you are able to maintain a healthy look. Kerastase thermiques are leave in moisturizers that protect the hair up the 450 degrees and add moisture and protein to the hair. If you are wanting to grow your hair longer and stronger, I recommend our Kerastase Initialiste, which is our advanced scalp concentrate that maximizes the potential length of your hair.
Some things to pay attention to when you’re curious if you’re ready for a hair cut is:
-I like to comb all my hair straight back and look to see if there is a change of density as it gets closer to the ends.
-Another way is to look closely at the ends of your hair and if you noticed little white beads on the hair, those are the beginnings of split ends. If you notice either of these, it’s time for a haircut!
At the end of the day, if healthy, full hair is what is desired than don’t be afraid of a good haircut and as always good product!
