How to Prepare for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment

It’s important to prepare for your eyelash extension appointment to ensure that the process goes smoothly and that you end up with the beautiful, full lashes that you want. Here are a few things that you should do before your appointment:

Avoid using any oil-based products around your eyes, including makeup remover and moisturizer. Oil can break down the adhesive used to apply the lashes, causing them to fall out prematurely.

If you have sensitive eyes or allergies, let your lash technician know beforehand. They may recommend using a different adhesive or applying a patch test to ensure that you don’t have a reaction.

Arrive at your appointment with clean, dry lashes. If you wash your face before your appointment, make sure to pat your lashes dry before leaving the house.

Overall, the key to a successful eyelash extension appointment is preparation. By taking the time to follow these steps, you can ensure that your lashes turn out exactly how you want them.

Bare-ly Prepared: How to Get the Most Out of Your Brazilian Wax

If you’re planning to get a Brazilian wax, there are a few things you should do beforehand to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.

First and foremost, it’s important to make sure your hair is the right length. Brazilian waxes work best when the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long (length of a grain of rice), but not longer than a half inch. This allows the wax to grip the hair properly and remove it effectively. If your hair is too long it can lead to discomfort. If your hair is too short, the wax may not be able to grab onto the hair properly, which means not a precise wax.

It’s also a good idea to exfoliate your skin before your waxing appointment. This will help to remove any dead skin cells and other debris that could potentially block the hair follicles and make it harder for the wax to remove the hair. You can exfoliate with a gentle scrub or exfoliating gloves. Just be sure to do it a day before your appointment to avoid irritating your skin.

Finally, make sure to avoid any activities that could irritate your skin before your waxing appointment. This includes things like using harsh soaps or skincare products, shaving, and applying lotions or creams to the area that will be waxed. All of these things can irritate your skin and make it more sensitive, which can increase your discomfort during the waxing process.

By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your Brazilian wax goes smoothly and that you’re happy with the results. So take the time to prepare properly, and you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of smooth, hair-free skin without any unnecessary discomfort.

How to take care of curly hair

GOT CURLS??

Today is all about curly hair love! Whether you have tight bouncy curls or loose waves, we’re going to talk about how to take care of those cute locks in 3 steps!

Cleansing: curly hair needs something that is gentle. Avoid anything that says deep cleansing or clarifying and try a product with a low PH. You’ll also want to use hydrating products, especially a hydrating conditioner. FUN TIP: Keep a wide tooth comb or wet brush in the shower to comb through after your rinse! It’s way easier on your fragile wet hair. Invest in a microfiber towel. Trust us, it will help keep the frizz down and is way more gentle on your hair. Gently blot the hair so it’s not dripping wet.

Treat: Once your hair is gently towel dried, then you can use your products. Our favorite way to start is with is a thermique from Kerastase! We suggest Keratase’s Crème De Jour Fondamentale Hair Cream. It’s a leave-in conditioner/heat protectant that will help moisturize and tame frizz. We also like to add an oil to the ends before we style. We suggest Kerastase’s Huile Sublime Repair Hair Oil.  This oil nourishes the hair and scalp for coily and very curly hair.

Style: Next, we add styling products. Our go-to is Gelée Curl Contour Gel-Cream Kerastase. This product is a defining gel-cream that will define coily, curly and very curly hair.

It can take a long time to figure out curls but if you need a little help shoot us a message or come by and we would love to help get you started!

When do you know you need a haircut?

haircut

Cailee Anderson, a master hairstylist at Calm Spa and Salon in Pleasant Grove, answers this question in detail below.

The beautiful thing about hair is there are so many styles and different ways to wear your hair. In this post, I’ll be going more in depth about how often you need a haircut and when you know that you need one.
There are so many factors that go into maintaining a hair cut. First, if you color treat your hair, the hair is taking on more chemical and thermal damage than natural hair so I always recommend 6-8 weeks in between cuts. If your hair is natural and you use less to medium thermal heat on it, I recommend 3-4 months.

Something to consider is if you are trying to maintain a certain hairstyle, know it will be more of an upkeep. Every hair cut differs and the time in between can range.

There are multiple products that help strengthen and prevent breakage so that you are able to maintain a healthy look. Kerastase thermiques are leave in moisturizers that protect the hair up the 450 degrees and add moisture and protein to the hair. If you are wanting to grow your hair longer and stronger, I recommend our Kerastase Initialiste, which is our advanced scalp concentrate that maximizes the potential length of your hair.

Some things to pay attention to when you’re curious if you’re ready for a hair cut is:

-I like to comb all my hair straight back and look to see if there is a change of density as it gets closer to the ends.

-Another way is to look closely at the ends of your hair and if you noticed little white beads on the hair, those are the beginnings of split ends. If you notice either of these, it’s time for a haircut!

At the end of the day, if healthy, full hair is what is desired than don’t be afraid of a good haircut and as always good product!

EXFOLIATION

Let’s talk about exfoliation of the skin. Did you know there are two types of exfoliants? Physical exfoliants and chemical exfoliants. As we age our cell turn over rate slows down drastically making our skin not feel and look smooth. In turn, we should be exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week to help slough off dead skin. Physical exfoliants are very popular for at home use. Chemical exfoliants are usually done by a professional in a spa setting. Here at Calm Spa and Salon, we offer several professional chemical and physical exfoliation treatments. For at home use, we recommend Eminence Organics Pear and Poppy Seed Microderm Polisher. It’s an aggressive physical exfoliant. The ground up walnut and poppy seeds polish the skin giving a smooth texture and the apricot oil leaves a glow you cant resist.  This is a great one for all you with oily skin! It is our Product of the Month giving you 20% off all January 2019. ($10 savings.)

BRAIDED BEAUTY

We all have those days where we are running behind and don’t have a lot of time to spend on our hair. Or we are trying to get one more day out of our hair before having to wash it again. On days like this…BRAID. Braids are beautiful and fast. They can be elaborate, if you want to go that route, or they can be simple and still look incredible! There are so many different braids you can try and with braids being so popular there are tons of tutorials online to help you learn how to do them or give you ideas for a new braided look. You can practice on your family, friends or yourself. Some easy but pretty ones are:

French Braid

Fishtail

Bamboo or Figure 8

Dutch

Braids are one of the most popular hair trends; being seen in fashion shows all over the world!

Braids are not only awesome for everyday looks, but they are eloquent enough to incorporate into a wedding or formal hairstyle.

A few tips that will help you with any kind of braid are:

  1. Use Product! (Dry shampoo, texture spray, etc.) – Add grip to fine/soft hair.
  2. Use Serum! – Smooth out thick/coarse hair for a less messy look.
  3. Stretch it out! – Carefully pull the sides of the braid to help make it look thicker and emphasize the shape.

Most importantly, have fun with it! Experiment all you can, they don’t need to be perfect. LET THE BRAIDING BEGIN!
